I am glad to recommend A Challenge For Clarity to all who have an interest in the gifts of the Spirit in these days. There is so much confusion, and we need to be preaching and writing on this subject. My prayer is that this book will have wide acceptance, and that it will be used to help many people out of confusion into the clear light of God’s Word.
I particularly like the way Don Neace calls people back to the unchanging Word of God. It alone is our final authority in what we believe, preach, and practice—”Let God be true, but every man a liar.” Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Many today do just the opposite. They start with some spectacular, emotional experience and try to work from there to the truth, try to find some text of Scripture to support their experience. THEIR EXPERIENCE BECOMES THEIR AUTHORITY! Jesus said we must always start with “truth,” then be sure that our experience conforms to that “truth” set forth in His Word. Don Neace makes this very clear and there is no uncertain sound in his presentation!
In addition, I like his emphasis on the unlawfulness of speaking “the wonderful works of God” in native languages and thus causing amazement in those who heard. He gives us the right context for what happened on Pentecost, and I have not heard many preachers and Bible teachers teach this point.
Then, the emphasis on all the spiritual gifts being given “severally as He will” to various members of the body of Christ “so that all may profit,” is very important for all of us to understand. It is true that no “gift” is given to any Christian just for his personal benefit. It is given for the “common good” of the church, “so that all may profit.”
Sincerely in Christ, Bill Neece
