Stanley Hoffman’s dreams of adventure in the wilds of Africa were changed to a burden for the salvation of the people who inhabited the land when he was converted at the age of nineteen. In spite of a difficult life as a boy on a Canadian farm in Saskatchewan, Stanley went to attend Alberta Bible Institute where he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree. It was there that he met Marion Schwartz whom he married in 1956. After pastoring at Schuler, Alberta, for one year, they went on to Tanganyika in 1959 to pioneer a work for the Church of God.
After 15 years of giving leadership to the work in Tanganyika (now Tanzania). The Hoffmans moved to Kenya in 1974 in order to give training to pastors and leaders in southwest Kenya. Three years later the Hoffmans left missionary service and took a pastorate at Carstairs, Alberta, where they served until 1983.
During the Idi Amin years in Uganda, Stanley felt strongly that one day, after this oppressive regime, he would like to go to Uganda and gather up the remaining remnant of the Church of God and establish it throughout the country. “Amid Perils Often” is an account of the Hoffman’s four years in Uganda.
