Inspiration comes from many sources. Such is the case for this book. When I was in the process of reading materials for inclusion in another project, I came across several articles written by church of God writers on the topic of tongues. I soon found myself accumulating numerous articles on this topic written by church of God writers. In fact, the number of articles expanded beyond my expectations.
As I collected these articles, I reflected upon the comments of one church of God pastor who said he wanted to read everything he could on this topic by church of God authors to help him determine what he would believe and teach.
It only seemed natural then that these two events would be combined in my mind to see the need of putting all of these articles together into one source for the purpose of helping persons in the church of God to know how we have historically viewed the issue of speaking in tongues.
And so, here is the result. An Anthology on Tongues: A Compilation of Articles by Church of God Authors on the Topic of Tongues. These articles appear just as they were originally written by the authors. No attempt has been made to alter or change their writings. I have, however, made an attempt to put the articles into some kind of order, chronological or otherwise.
Thus, this book is submitted to the church in the hope that it may help us understand the historical, theological position of the church of God on such a controversial issues as tongues.
