The results set forth herein are presented as the work of a student who has sought to understand the meaning which the prophets of the Old Testament attached to the phrase יֹום יהוה (day of Yahweh). After an earnest consideration of the subject in question, we have endeavored to write the conclusions reached. We make no pretension to finality. The work is only an approach to a great theme. There remains much research to be done in this field. One does not have to go very far to see that the possibilities are limitless. We realize that we have done little more than indicate something of the circumstances in which the prophets lived, and have outlined but briefly a few features of their thought. We trust that other workers will discover truths which we have overlooked. Thought can live only if it is free to change. Old ideas are being dispelled constantly by the appearing of new facts. We reserve the right to reconsider our position when new evidence warrants that we do so. The chasm between truth and individualistic or subjective interpretation of truth is sometimes wide. We have tried to be as objective as possible.
