Beyond Damascus Road

If it is not wrong to do so, the writer would dedicate this volume to all young preachers. Who can forget the struggles and fiery trials of those first years in the gospel ministry? If there are any people on God’s beautiful earth who need the comforting, empowering, enlightening, strengthening (I dare not continue to add adjectives) power of the indwelt Holy Spirit, the preacher will need it.

It is a tragic truth that some have grown older; hewn a path for themselves and established a sort of human ability to serve with considerable success but they have never been soul winners and they have never had real joy in their ministry because they lacked that inner Presence to whisper in times of stress and doubt “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

The finest way any gospel preacher ever started his ministry is found in that state of full and absolute surrender to the will and purpose of God. The Holy Spirit will give assurance in the darkest hours and severest tests of your life.

The Apostle Paul learned this and was not allowed, by God, to even begin his ministry until the Holy Spirit came to posses his entire being. From that moment forward there could be no turning back. He, perhaps as no other, provides the inspiration for us to go “Beyond Damascus Road.”
