While evangelicals strive to follow the pattern of Scripture in everything, they often conform to American culture in one critical respect: They exclude women from pastoral leadership. Wesleyan-Holiness churches such as the Church of God (Anderson, IN) insist on the New Testament standard of gift-based ministry rather than gender-based ministry, so women have served as pastors in our leading congregations. However, some Wesleyan-Holiness congregations have been swayed by the evangelical tide and are refusing to consider women for pastoral ministry.
