In behalf of the Church of God, this Foreword is given. Three things have been aimed at: TRUTHFULNESS, SINCERITY, and SIMPLICITY. Nothing is accomplished, in the end, by misrepresentations, by “sugar-coating,” or by ambiguous, high-sounding terms.
The great fundamentals of Bible truth should be the desire of everyone, and all Christians, guided and controlled by the two witnesses, the Word, and the Spirit, may eventually be led into ALL TRUTH, where they can and will “see eye to eye” on all fundamentals. God speed the day!
Many religious discussions do more harm than good, because the wrong spirit dominates one or both of the disputants. It is hoped in these discussions, that we have pressed these truths forward, not only in zeal, but in sincere love, and brotherly regard for the opposing side.
The writer of this foreword has been in very frequent, and most intimate association with Rev. A. Q. Bridwell, the exponent in this debate for the Church of God, in reviewing his manuscripts, and otherwise assisting for the preparation of this book, and can sincerely vouch for his love of Truth, his Christian integrity, and his untiring devotion to God’s cause.
It is to be expected that errors may be found, although much care has been exercised that those errors may be reduced to the minimum. That the great truths, however, brought out so clearly, will offset any minor errors, and redound to the glory of God, is our most earnest prayer.
May those who read, do so with an open heart, and a sincere desire to know the truth, and may they find joy and happiness in following the blessed Saviour, until “we shall all gather home in the morning!”
