AMIDST a world of broken treaties, renounced pacts and international insincerity it is reassuring to read that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Heb. 13:8). In a changing world we need and warmly appreciate our changeless Lord. In this Son of God, who was oftener called Son of man, was invested “all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily” (Col. 2:9). He declared, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matt. 28:18).
Christ’s earthly life was characterized by tenderness toward the needy of earth; he was compassionate and merciful, sympathetic toward the poor, and stern only with the hypocrites. Time after time his compassion toward the ill, the blind, the crippled, was shown through a manifestation of his healing power. Sometimes he healed all who were brought to him (Matt. 8:16). Only when unbelief was general among the people was his healing power temporarily unused (Matt. 13:58).
Jesus did not discriminate in the bestowing of his love and power. A blind beggar was healed of his blindness (Mark 10:46-52). The servant of a centurion was touched by the healing hand of the Master (Matt. 8:5-13). A nobleman’s son was healed, also (John 4:46-54). The Gospels are full of such narratives of Christ’s healing power.
