The first deliberately observed movement wide anniversary celebration of record was the marking of the half-century point in the movement’s history. This fiftieth-year celebration was appropriately called “The Golden Jubilee,” and the designated time was 1931.The particular events of that year have meaning, of course, only in the context of what had happened in the years immediately preceding and what was to happen in the years following. Developments during the eight-year period of 1928–35 will be the focus of this chapter.

The Golden Jubilee celebration in 1931 was instigated and engineered primarily by the Gospel Trumpet Company with other agencies cooperating and participating at appropriate points. The grand celebration was planned by a committee with R. L. Berry serving as director. Committee members included D. W. Patterson, Earl L. Martin, and Charles E. Brown. A large two-page advertisement was placed in an early 1931 issue of the Gospel Trumpet.

This book was intended to celebrate the tremendous growth fo the Church of God during its first fifty years.
