The consideration of the Old Testament types is one of the most interesting and rewarding studies and is absolutely necessary if we are to rightly understand the Word of God. To many the Old Testament is often viewed as merely a collection of historical tales that give the origin of the Jewish people, and illustrate Oriental manners and customs. They consider them useful as a collection of stories to entertain children in Sunday School, but other than that, they consider them of little practical importance in the spiritual realm.
Yet, in reality, the Old Testament is as a beautifully illustrated collection of books that contain many engravings of pictures and portraits from the beginning that tell us something of the artist who engraved and painted them.
I cannot conceive of any one trying to understand the New Testament and the glorious good news contained therein without first referring to the pictures from the Old Testament that prefigure the resplendent message of the New Testament.
