There was a day when it was imperative that I think the thoughts of others and write about the experiences of those gone before me, and I suppose it shall continue to be so, at least, in a measure; however, I am older now! For some fifteen years it has been my happy experience to serve in one parish, and during that time I have counseled with hundreds in their hours of tragedy, sorrow, disaster, joy, pleasure, and happiness. From this wonderful, unusual relationship with so many splendid people, I relate some of my experiences on the pages of this book.
Some of these experiences are told verbatim, some minimized, others exaggerated. Always I have been careful to keep confidences—in some cases fictitious names are employed.
The striking element in all my counseling with people is the fact that almost all of them desire to know God’s will for their lives. Of course, the sad element is that after having apparently found God’s will, a few, like the rich young ruler of Bible fame, walk away sorrowing. . . .
As you read these pages which contain the happenings, counselings, and decisions of others, may you be greatly helped and blessed.
