The strange new faiths discussed in this book are called “new” because they have developed in the last hundred years, which makes them new in relation to the thousands of years of world history. All but one of them originated in America, and most of them in New York and Pennsylvania. All of them claim to be “Christian” in some sense, though most of them got their chief doctrines from pagan religions.
