These studies have been prepared with the chief aim of stressing the religious values of the several books of the New Testament. Such values are of permanent and inestimable worth. Social and historical backgrounds have been cautiously explored where an understanding of them might contribute to the proper interpretation of spiritual truths. In order that this volume might minister to the popular demand for spiritual nurture, critical problems have generally been avoided. The introduction to the study of the various books is necessarily brief but supplies the average reader with a helpful setting for their messages.
In the preparation of these studies many works have been consulted, but it has been deemed inadvisable to burden the pages of the book with references to them.
