"Poetics" has to do with the theory or elemental principles regarding creating or crafting something—the emphasis being upon the process, the skill exacted, and the art involved in doing so. During more than sixty years of studying the art of preaching, preparing and delivering sermons, and teaching about homiletics, I have always given attention to the "elemental things" about preaching. May all who read my treatment of these "elemental things" experience it as an aid to their understanding and use.
