A Personal Note to You.
I know something about you. You are a survivor.
No matter how many battles you have come through―whether they were in a hospital room, a jungle in Vietnam, or in the womb of your mother―You are a survivor.
You have made it.
But you are not home yet. You live with secret fear that something is going to get you eventually. Cancer. Heart failure. A maniac with a machine gun. A drunken driver running through a stop light. A germ that no one has identified yet.
The grim reaper seems always to be sharpening his sickle.
Not just you. The whole world seems under threat. The more we study the world, the more reasons we seem to have for fear.
But, as we say, being forewarned is being forearmed. Knowing your enemy is the biggest part of the battle.
As I write these lines, I know that somewhere there is an answer to every question.
A friend told me he has cancer. A terminal disease? Possibly―possibly not. Dr. Bernie Siegel says, “Cancer is just a word, not a sentence.”
Terminal? Only because our knowledge is terminal. We run out of knowledge, then we run out of time.
The good news is the promise of immunity. Protection. It is a real promise. “You shall not be afraid . . . no plague shall come near your habitation . . . a thousand shall fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
Real promises made by God.
What do they mean and how can you make them work for you? How can you inject the magic medicine of faith into the lives of your suffering friends?
Read on: all the way through this book. Somewhere the truth will sneak into your mind.
When that happens, you won’t need this book any more. After all, it is only a map. When you have reached the destination, the map can only remind you of how you got there.
Maybe you had better keep the book. You may want to tell somebody else how to survive.
