In this booklet, the author discusses the following points:
1. It is held that speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance (Acts 2:4) is to be distinguished from the gift of tongues of I Corinthians 12:14.
2. The term “baptism of the Holy Ghost” is stressed as being something more than receiving the Spirit or being filled with the Spirit.
3. The baptism of the Spirit is in every instance attended by the initial, physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance (2:4).
4. It is as the Bible evidence of the Holy Spirit baptism that speaking in tongues “as the Spirit gives utterance” is always manifest.
5. That speaking in tongues was to be the God-intended evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit baptism is established by the scriptural examples recorded in Acts, where tongues actually served as such evidence. (See Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:6).
6. These examples in Acts show that speaking in tongues was to be the sign of a believer to the unbelievers.
7. The baptism of the Spirit, as evidenced by the speaking in tongues, is supposed to come after one has tarried for it.
8. Power that prompts speaking in tongues should not be resisted; rather, we should be subject to them (Rom. 13:1-2).
