When You Lead Devotions

“Will you lead devotions for us next week?”

The church will probably make this request of you many times through the church school, Youth Fellowship, Women’s Society, men’s organization, class meetings, clubs, retreats, prayer meetings, and other groups.

Materials for such devotional services are often hard to find. This book of devotional services is designed to meet the needs of many groups and occasions.

The author would be deeply disappointed, however, if these devotional services were used without creative thinking and planning on the part of the user. Every devotion should be adapted to the local group and its needs. Insert other poems, illustrations, Scripture selections into the devotions. Take full liberty in cutting out certain portions of the devotions and substituting some of your own materials which you may feel to be superior and most helpful to the group you will be guiding. Put each devotional thought into your own words and adapt it to your particular group needs.
